UK X Factor winners are being seen as the new Spice Girls after giving themselves some spice-y nicknames!
Baby, Scary, Ginger, Posh and Sporty have always been synonymous to Girl Power Spice Girls and new winning group are bringing back the pop nickname. Is it making you nostalgic or roll your eyes?
Little Mix became the first group entry to win in the program’s eight-year history. X Factor Big Boss Simon Cowell also believes that these girls could be bigger than the Spice Girls.
Little Mix formerly called Rhythmix are composed of English girls Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall. During their stay on the show, Tulisa Contostavlos served as their mentor.
And back with the nicknames. Perrie adopted the name “Boho Mix”, Jesy is “Swagger Mix”, Jade as the “Cutie Mix” and Leigh-Anne is “Fiery Mix.”
The girl group didn’t really come in strong on the show. They were not the early favorites too but with their killer harmonies and clean cut, fun image, the fans made their statement of supporting the girls especially Jesy who became a target by internet bullies due to her weight.
These girls successfully auditioned as soloists for the series but they were not successful in passing the boot camp’s initial challenge. The judges therefore, gave them a new chance and that is to become part of the Group category. They were placed in different ensembles with Edwards and Nelson completing the four member group Faux Pas while the two other girls Pinnock and Thirlwall completed the three members Orion.
Orion and Faux Pas didn’t make it either to the judges’ houses. A later decision saw two members from each of the group being called back to form the four members of Rhythmix and with the girls being together, they finally made it to the judges’ houses and the live shows.
Due to a children’s music charity bearing the name Rhythmix, the program was unable to trademark the initial group name. So to avoid any more difficulties for the charity, the girls changed their group name to “Little Mix” on October 28th and on November 20th, they were declared and announced as the first girl group in the show’s eight-year history to progress past the seventh live show. And lastly, on 11 December, Little Mix were announced as the winners, making them the first ever group to win the show.
